"There was one young private in the back of the truck with us and he kept giving some of the guys a bad time. He kept telling them that he was going to shoot them. I finally told him to leave them alone and he asked me what I thought I was going to do about it......so I told him", Kinch sighed. "It was then that he put those cuffs on me".

"I come from Detroit", Kinch said with a grin as he suddenly switched to french. "What part of france do you come from?"

LeBeau blinked but then answered in French.

He said he was from Paris. "I worked at the rail-yard before the Germans stole my country. Then I volunteered for the Free French Air Force."

Kinch grinned and switched back to english for Newkirk's sake. "I worked for the Detroit phone company before the war", he said. He looked at Newkirk and smiled. "How about you? What part of england are you from and what did you do before the war?"

Kinch slumped unhappily. "Yeah, you're probably right", he muttered. Then he smiled crookedly. "Well, I guess it's the prisoner's mess for the three of us tonight".

Newkirk ate the crackers and drank the water.

Surprisingly, his stomach actually kept it down.

He blinked when LeBeau mentioned the stealing of ingredients.

Maybe that was something he could do as a thank-you for giving him his food.

He rested for a bit, and then got up, walking outside without saying a word. He then snuck to the guards' mess, got inside, and exited with all sorts of food and ingredients in his pockets--along with a bottle of schnapps.

He returned to Barracks 2 and laid back down; the next time LeBeau checked up on him, he would give him the ingredients.
